Our Setting

No downloads found.

The setting was allocated funding from Surestart to build a purpose built building which was completed in Jan 2010, this includes two large play areas, sensory room, office, toilets, changing rooms and is fully accessible.

Outside we have two covered areas, an area designated for wheeled vehicles, climbing etc and covered in soft pour flooring, a vegetable garden, herb garden, wildlife garden, mud kitchen and water station. Within our grounds we have recently planted trees with parents to create a wooded area, cut paths in long grass to create a ‘wildlife walk’ and make full use of Forest Schools within the school grounds.

We also have chickens and rabbits, which we care for fostering an understanding of life cycles (using the eggs as we also cook as a group every day) we also hatch the eggs with Reception class and how to care for living animals etc. We have a large outside shed which contains a range of resources that the children can freely access and choose items to enhance play. We are passionate about outside play and believe that it is important for children to connect with their environment at every level allowing them to engage at a sensory and intellectual level, consolidate their fine and gross motor skills, and allow for experimentation balancing child led, child initiated and adult led activities.

The setting is based on the site of Hartpury Primary School and maintains strong links with the school. It is a rural setting feeding Hartpury and Ashleworth primary schools in the main and serves the communities of Hartpury, Maisemore, Ashleworth, High Leadon and Eldersfield as well as children from Gloucester, Newent, Staunton, Corse and surrounding areas.
